My Project I Started Volunteering At St. Vincent De Paul

For my project I started volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul with Hannah. We unloaded boxes, organized items, and sometimes even directly helped a customer. However during this time I never felt like anything clicked. I couldn’t make any connections. It’s not that they weren’t there; I just wasn’t able to really pick up on much that I could write about. So I decided to take a different route. I had a friend that I used to work with who had been arrested and been to jail before and I asked him if he would elaborate on his experiences so that I might find something that would tug on my heart strings and give me something I would feel passionate enough about to write a paper. I was pleasantly surprised to get more than what I had bargained for. He really brought me into his world. Light bulbs started going off above my head and I’m excited to share these with you. I interviewed my previous coworker who is a small time drug dealer. He has been arrested six times, been to jail for a few months a couple times, as well as spending several random nights in jail. His first arrest occurred at eighteen. He was out making his rounds selling marijuana and got caught selling to a minor. He had bags of weed on him as well as the paraphernalia used to smoke it like pipes and roach clips. This resulted in a felony charge and two misdemeanor charges on his record. Because this was his first offense he only had to stay a month in jail. These trials that were arranged upon the belief of witchcraft could have multiple explanations. In my opinion these trials began as a combination between religious factors, boredom, social issues and all coming together in a mess of suspicion and deceit. Although these trials did start because of the Puritan’s imagination, their true religious belief in witchcraft, childish antics, and their hatred for their neighbors helped to fuel their imagination.
